The 6.5 mm 130 Grain VLD Hunting Rifle Bullet by Berger is designed for hunters seeking long-range accuracy and flat trajectory. It is one of the flattest shooting hunting bullets available, ideal for taking down game at extended ranges. The bullet design is similar to the VLD Target Rifle Bullet but with a thinner J4 Precision Jacket, which facilitates rapid expansion upon impact, ensuring an ethical kill. The bullet is engineered to penetrate 2-3 inches into the vitals before expanding, creating a massive wound cavity up to 15 inches, causing significant organ/tissue damage and hydrostatic shock.

The secant ogive design reduces drag, resulting in a flatter trajectory, less wind drift, and better retained velocity, all of which make the bullet suitable for long-range hunting. The VLD Hunting Bullet is particularly effective when used for single-shot applications, with some rifles preferring to touch the rifling.
